Ayatul Kursi (2:255)
Ayatul Kursi Meaning:
Allah! There is no deity worthy of worship except Him—the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not weary Him. For He is the Most High, the Most Great. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255)

Numerous hadiths highlight its unique significance and the divine rewards associated with its recitation. Below are nine of the most remarkable virtues and benefits of Ayatul Kursi:
1. Ayatul Kursi – The Greatest Verse in the Qur’an
In Sahih Muslim 8102, Ubayy ibn Ka‘b narrates:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “O Abu al-Mundhir! Do you know which verse from the Book of Allah is the greatest?” I replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He repeated the question, so I said, “Allah, there is no god except Him, the Living, the Self-Sustaining.” The Prophet ﷺ then struck my chest and said, “Rejoice in your knowledge, O Abu al-Mundhir.”
[Sahih Muslim: 810]
2. Greater than the Heavens and the Earth
In Jami‘ Tirmidhi: 28843, Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (RA) narrates:
“Allah has not created anything in the heavens or the earth greater than Ayatul Kursi.” Sufyan explained: “That is because Ayatul Kursi is the Speech of Allah, and the Speech of Allah is greater than His creation of the heavens and the earth.”
[Jami‘ Tirmidhi: 2884]
3. Reciting Ayatul Kursi Before Sleep Brings Protection
In Sahih Bukhari: 50104, Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated:
The Prophet ﷺ appointed me to guard the charity of Ramadan. One night, a man came to steal from it. He told me, “When you go to bed, recite Ayatul Kursi. Allah will appoint a guardian over you, and no devil will come near you until morning.” When I told the Prophet ﷺ, he said, “He told you the truth, though he is a liar. That was Satan.” [Sahih Bukhari: 5010]
4. The Pinnacle of the Qur’an
In Jami‘ Tirmidhi: 28785, Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Everything has a peak, and the peak of the Qur’an is Surah Al-Baqarah. Within it lies a verse that is the master of all Qur’anic verses, Ayatul Kursi.” [Jami‘ Tirmidhi: 2878]
5 Protection Morning and Evening
In Jami‘ Tirmidhi: 28796, Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever recites Ha Mim Al-Mu’min (40:1–3) and Ayatul Kursi in the morning will be protected until evening, and whoever recites them in the evening will be protected until morning.”
[Jami‘ Tirmidhi: 2879]
5. Used for Healing and Ruqyah
Allah says in Surah Al-Isra, 17:827:
“We send down in the Qur’an that which is a healing and mercy for the believers, but it increases the wrongdoers only in loss.” Surah Al-Isra,(17:82)
Because Ayatul Kursi is the greatest verse in the Qur’an, it is widely recited for spiritual healing and protection. It is often used in Ruqyah to treat ailments such as the evil eye, possession, or distress.

“In Surah Al-Baqarah there is a verse that is the master of all verses in the Qur’an. It is never recited in a house except that Satan leaves it, and that verse is Ayatul Kursi.”
7. Reciting After Each Prayer Leads to Paradise
The Prophet ﷺ said8:
