Meaning of Sajda in the Quran
In the Quran, sajda refers to a special act of prostration that symbolizes the believer’s ultimate humility before Allah. When performing sajda, a person lowers themselves fully — touching the ground with their forehead, hands, knees, and toes — as a physical expression of surrender and devotion.
This practice is more than a ritual movement; it is a moment of spiritual connection, where the believer acknowledges Allah’s greatness and their own dependence on Him. Throughout history, similar gestures of bowing or prostrating have been present in many faiths, but in Islam, sajda carries a unique status as both an act of worship and a direct command found in the Quran.
